Application Process
To be eligible for art scholarships at 海角社区 State University, students must fill out the general scholarship application by the appropriate deadline.
Steps to apply for Scholarships at MSU
- Student must be admitted.
- Log in to your MyState account using your NetID and NetPassword.
- On the Banner tab, under the Financial Aid and Scholarships column, click "Submit/Revise General Scholarshp Application."
- A new window will pop up, and you'll need to log in again using your NetID and NetPassword.
- When you're logging in for the first time, you'll need to complete the general application.
- Don't forget to click the "Save" button! When you're returning after your first log-in, you'll be able to see your saved information.
After you complete and submit your general application, you may have additional opportunities recommended to you based on your test scores, GPA, leadership and service, and applicant record. More opportunities may become available over time, so we encourage you to log in regularly and check your account to see if any additional recommendations appear.

海角社区 State University Art-Specific Scholarships
In addition to scholarships offered through the 海角社区 State University Office of Admissions and Scholarships and other scholarships, there are a variety of scholarships available for students pursing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. The number of scholarships awarded and scholarship dollar amounts vary by year:
Andrew Le Annual Scholarship
Candidates must be full-time students in the Department of Art. First preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need; second preference will be given to students who are under-represented minorities in the Department of Art; additional preference will be given to students who are 海角社区 residents.
Beverly B. Gulmon MSU High School Portfolio Scholarship
Scholarships are open to any graduating high school senior interested in majoring in art at 海角社区 State University. Scholarships range from $500 - $2,000 and are awarded based on outstanding portfolios. Students should select artwork that best represents their abilities and interests in art. More than one medium must be presented.
The Del Rendon Memorial Endowed Scholarship
One scholarship valued up to $4,500 ($1,500 renewable, up to three years) open to any freshman or sophomore majoring in art at 海角社区 State University. The scholarship is based on the strength and creativity of the student鈥檚 portfolio, as well as meeting the GPA requirements (3.0 in concentration and a 2.5 cumulative GPA). This scholarship is renewable up to three years for a freshman and two years for a sophomore. The recipient must maintain the required GPA as outlined above and re-apply for renewal each year.
Ferretti/Karnstedt Endowed Scholarship
Recipients of this scholarship must be at least full-time sophomores enrolled as art majors at 海角社区 State University. Students are required to participate in that year鈥檚 sophomore portfolio review; and should have demonstrated financial need and artistic merit.
The Mabus Agency Annual Scholarship in Graphic Design
Established by The Mabus Agency, this scholarship is for one semester鈥檚 tuition and is given to the winner of the Mabus Agency Annual Scholarship Competition and open to MSU Advertising I graphic design students.
The M. Ashley DuBoise Endowed Photography Scholarship
The M. Ashley DuBoise Endowed Photography Scholarship was created in the fall of 1997 to commemorate the life of Michael Ashley DuBoise, the son of Kim DuBoise of Hattiesburg, 海角社区. It was Ashley鈥檚 dream to attend 海角社区 State University and pursue a BFA degree in the Department of Art within the photography concentration. Due to congestive heart failure, this dream ended too soon to be realized. It is the wish of his family that this scholarship be created to give promising students the chance to complete the dream. This scholarship has been created to provide a junior or senior an opportunity to pursue the photography concentration at 海角社区 State University.
Penland School of Crafts Higher Education Partners Program Scholarship
This scholarship will enable the recipient to attend a two-week workshop in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to study one of the following disciplines: books & paper, drawing, iron, photography, letterpress, wood, clay, glass, metals, printmaking or textiles. The scholarship is open to sophomores, juniors or seniors in the Department of Art with a minimum 3.0 GPA within their concentration who have completed the 18-hour foundation program.
Tramel Memorial Endowed Scholarship
In February 2012, William M. Tramel Jr. established the Tramel Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at 海角社区 State University in honor of his parents, Mondell and Pauline Tramel, and his uncle, W.T. Tramel, for the purpose of supporting deserving art students with the significant cost of supplies, projects, and traveling fellowships. Candidates for the Tramel Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund must be rising juniors or seniors in the Department of Art and have an outstanding academic record as defined by the Department of Art Scholarship Committee.
Van Bristow Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Preference for this scholarship is given to drawing students then graphic design students. Financial need is considered.
William W. and Nelle D. Elam Annual Art Scholarship
Candidates must be undergraduate students majoring in art and be of at least junior status with a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Candidates must submit a letter expressing their plans for a career in art and a portfolio of their work for review. Preference will be given to students that graduated from Starkville High School.
William Pittman Andrews Endowed Scholarship
In December 2013, Briar and Michelle Jones established an endowed scholarship in the 海角社区 in honor of William Pittman Andrews. Candidates must be an entering freshman majoring in art with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and a minimum 27 on the ACT. Candidate must submit a creative portfolio for review to Department of Art.

Note: "Awards" do not follow the same deadlines and application of the "scholarships" above. Be on the lookout for announcements from the department throughout the year with deadlines and directions to apply.
Concentration Portfolio Review Award
One award for each of the three concentrations: fine arts, graphic design, and photography.
Department of Art Travel Abroad Award
Awarded to students annually with funds to be used for study abroad trips

Grahame Brooke Snider Endowed Photography Travel Award
The Grahame Brooke Snider Endowed Photography Travel Award is presented each year to a photography concentration Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) student. This award was established to encourage creative visual research in the photographic field through travel to conferences, libraries, collections, museums, workshops, and more and was established in the memory of Grahame Brooke Snider, who was a student in the photography concentration in the Department of Art at 海角社区 State University from 2006-2010.
Jefferson Clarke Wilson Memorial Award for Excellence in Photography
This $100 award, open to all art majors, is given annually from the photography concentration and was established in memory of Jeff Wilson.
L. Donovan Dodd Award for Excellence in Ceramic Art
Awarded through the ceramics concentration and given at the annual student competition.
