MSU MASK Policy

Masks must be worn in Giles Hall at all times.

Non-Compliance:

  1. For a first offense or observing students not wearing masks/facial coverings appropriately, a general class announcement will be made that students need to comply with current policy.
  2. For second and subsequent offenses, students who are not in compliance will be informed that they have been witnessed on more than one occasion failing to comply with the policy and that this creates an issue for the class. Policies outlined in syllabi will be enforced. Continued non-compliance will be referred to the Dean of Students.

Disciplinary Action:

  1. Students who continually refuses to comply after every good faith effort has been made to inform and educate using the strategies above can be dismissed from a class that day and referred to the Dean of Students office.
  2. At this point, documentation will be provided to the student offering a final opportunity to comply. Continued failure to cooperate will likely necessitate that they move to the online environment of the course if available (hyflex or true online option). The alternative may be that the student take another class(es) that will fit their schedule that has an online option(s).

Exceptions and Considerations:

  • Students needing an ADA accommodations for inability to wear a facial covering should contact Disabilities Support Services (DSS) Office in Montgomery Hall. For those students who have heath conditions which prevent the wearing of traditional facial coverings, DSS will provide accommodations and guidance on reasonable alternatives (e.g., face shields).

MSU Wellness Check Mobile App

State's emergency notification app, Everbridge, now offers additional features to help keep you safe and healthy this semester. For download instructions, visit: .

The app will remind you each morning to complete a short Wellness Check before you start your day. Simply tap on the notification and follow the instructions. Shortly after you submit your response, you will receive a green or red screen indicating if you can begin your day or if you should stay in your room until you speak to the Health Center. The app also has a symptom checker. This questionnaire asks about possible symptoms and notifies the Health Center if you are not feeling well. You can complete the symptom checker at any time. Additional features such as contact information for the Longest Student Health Center, emergency guidelines, and Cowbell Well safety tips are also available in the app. All on-campus residents are required to install the app and complete the daily wellness checks. Contact the Longest Student Health Center if you have any medical questions or concerns. For technical questions, contact the MSU Service Desk.

Academic Advising

The Academic Advisor for S|ARC is Laura Mitchell. She can be reached by various means throughout the week. She will host office hours Monday and Friday. If you must see her in person please make arrangements to visit her office, adjacent to the plotter lab on Monday or Friday. You may also reach her via email or phone.

  • Email: lmitchell@caad.msstate.edu – preferred and the most likely way to get a timely response.
  • WebEx:  - If you need to make a virtual appointment please email her to set up a meeting time.
  • Cell Phone: 662-275-0105

Please keep in mind this is her personal number and use it professionally during traditional business hours. She is sharing this number with students in order to maintain maximum accessibility with everyone while she is working remotely. If you text or call with important questions after traditional working hours, it is likely she will see it but might not have the opportunity or resources needed to respond at that time. Because she’s human this means she may not remember to respond to you when she gets back to her desk/computer. Advising questions are best suited for email/webex.

Plotter Lab

At this time, the the plotter lab is scheduled to be open Sunday – Friday. Hours of operation will be posted on the Plotter Lab entrance. We ask only one student patron enter the lab at a time.

First year students and any continuing student who purchased a new computer over the summer will need to download and install the print drivers. A how-to tutorial is posted on the wall outside of the plotter lab.  A digital copy of the “How to Install” guide will be available on the website soon under the following link. /current-students/architecture/lab-shop

If you cannot complete the driver installation after following the guide, visit the plotter lab and a student assistant will be glad to help you with basic troubleshooting.  Do not wait until 5 minutes before an assignment is due to install and test your print drivers. This is surely a recipe for failure.

Strategic Planning Committee – Student Survey

  • The faculty are in the middle of a two-year strategic planning effort for the future of the . As part of this, the committee will be sending out a survey to gauge student opinions and responses to a host of topics in the coming weeks. When these are distributed, please fill one out in a timely matter and take them seriously. They carry more weight than you might think!

SHOP Update and Building Safety

Scott Hudspeth, building services coordinator

  • We have new desks.
I would like to thank the student workers that helped me get these desks put together: Bre Richeson, Nathan Deaton, Noah Gomez, and Jane Kent.
Try not to tear them up.

  • Power strip/ Surge protector:
I have noticed more students have been buying non-approved power strips and extension cords for use in the studios. We got written up for this in our safety review in February. The only approved power extension devices are UL Listed Surge Protectors. Packaging that says “relocatable power tap” does NOT mean it is a surge protector. If you are confused or unsure about whether yours qualifies or not, please just come see me to ask.

Make sure you buy one that is long enough for your needs (10 ft or greater is better). 3 ft is not long enough to reach to any desk. We cannot chain surge protectors together to reach longer distances. You will be asked to remove anything in violation, or those items will be confiscated.

  • Shop/Lap Operating conditions:
Operating policies for the Fabrication Labs will be modified for this year. This includes restrictions on available time and the number of users allowed to use these resources. Only students in designated studios will have access and then only under the following two conditions:
    • Different year levels will have exclusive access to the shop at different times in the fall. You may use the shop ONLY during the times designated for your studio.
    • Most shop equipment, such as table saws, will require sign-up to utilize (more information to come).

Laser cutting timeslots will be extended to 20 min blocks, but will still remain $5 per block. Students will not be allowed to enter the laser lab, but will rather hand their material to the worker to process the cut files. The extra 5 minutes per timeslot is to account for the worker placing and removing material from the machines. You should still plan your cut files for 15 min blocks. Students are still limited to 1 hour per day on laser cutter use; this equals three timeslots max per day.

Hours and availability for any of the labs are subject to change or immediate closure at any time, so always be prepared.

Basement is NOT a storage area

  • NO personal projects will be allowed to be worked on or finished in any of the labs or workroom. Do not store any materials in the basement unless it is for immediate use.

METHOD STUDIOS Research FELLOWSHIP
