Celebrating Black History Month
2023 is a special year for S|ARC, as we turn 50! In architecture school years, we are just getting started.
We have lots of great events planned for the 50th anniversary celebration. We’ll be sending out “save the date” announcements for a September football weekend tailgate, a mid-October Chataqua, a February baseball weekend party, and an early April Gala. We hope you can join us for all the gatherings! In addition, we’ll have an alumni exhibit, launch an MSU S|ARC Alumni Design Awards program, and honor many of our past faculty.
In the meantime, we have been busy with celebrating the Line Scale Form Awards at the All-School Spring Convocation; a resume, portfolio, and mock interview workshop with the Design Leadership Foundation; and a and Department of Interior Design Career Fair in Giles that hosted more than 60 firms. Field trips have taken fourth-year students to the Gulf Coast, third-year students to Jackson to Jackson Precast, second-year students to TKO Farms, and Materials students to MMC Concrete. Elisa Castaneda’s Aydelott travels are exhibited in the gallery, and Soumya Middleton and Karlton Wallace designed a beautiful composition for NOMAS for Black History Month. Caroline Prather was selected as part of a delegation to travel to Washington, D.C., for political science, and Luke Murray’s fourth-year exploratory studio project was accepted to the ARCC conference. DuJuan Brown served as Editorial Assistant for Associate Professor Jake Gines as Editor-in-Chief for , a publication of the Forest Products Society. And Professor Hans Herrmann will receive an ACSA Design-Build Education Award for the interdisciplinary project “The Living Room” at the ACSA Conference in March.
As we go forward into our next 50 years, we are thankful for all our opportunities and successes and realize that this would not be possible without support from our alumni and friends. Thank you for everything you do for our program.
