Department of Art’s Gootee prevails as a top photographer in international competition

State University Department of Art Professor Marita Gootee received the London Gold Award in the Fine Art Photography / Abstract category of the 2024 photography competition sponsored by the International Awards Associate (IAA) and the .

Gootee’s award winning image, was created with the support of an Arts Fellowship Grant from the Arts Commission. 

“It is exciting to have received Gold Level,” said Gootee. “The image is a photo encaustic with a contact lumen as the base.”

Gootee, who serves as the photography concentration coordinator at MSU, also received Honorable Mention in the Professional Cell Phone category with her image “Southern Vortex.”

The London Photography Awards is an international competition that celebrates and honors excellence in photography worldwide. This year’s competition received 3,800 entries from over 55 countries.
